Welcome AGO National President to Chapter Banquet
Eileen Guenther, newly-elected President of our National American Guild of Organists, returned from South Africa
just in time for Inauguration Day, her fifth such trip. She is so impressed with the music, culture, and beauty
of South Africa that she regularly leads immersion trips for Wesley Seminary to that country. She notes in her remarks
in the February issue of The American Organist, that South Africa’s struggle out of apartheid mirrors America’s
Civil Rights movement, and she has learned a lot from the people there about reconciliation and forgiveness.
Residing in Vienna, Virginia, her current employment is as Associate Professor of Church Music and Director of the
Summer School at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. Formerly, she was Minister of Music
and Liturgy at Foundry United Methodist Church, also in DC.
Her National AGO offices in the past include National Councillor for Organizational Development, National Councillor for Professional Concerns, National Vice President, and Chair of the 1982 AGO National Convention in Washington, DC.
In the caption under Eileen’s nomination photo in TAO’s April edition, she wrote: “Many feel the church today faces
challenges unlike any since the 16th-century Reformation movements. The AGO also faces challenges, and will succeed
in its mission only by finding new ways to increase the viability of the organ, raising the visibility of the organ, and
equipping its members for the opportunities and challenges of our time.”
Please be prompt in sending in your Banquet Reservations, so you can be present to hear what our new
AGO President has to tell us about these opportunities and challenges. She will also be installing the
newly-elected Harrisburg Chapter officers and board members.
Don’t miss the celebration!
